Fashion Design 102 (Grade 3rd-8th)

Fashion Design 102 is a hands-on class for kids who have taken a beginner fashion course and are ready to take their sewing skills further. In this class, students will focus on building confidence at the sewing machine while learning how to troubleshoot and solve problems that come up during the sewing process. They will create fun and functional projects such as hair accessories, tote bags, pajama shorts or pants, and leggings.

Course Objective:

Students will strengthen their sewing skills by following step-by-step projects, learning how to read simple patterns, and making adjustments as they sew. They will experiment with different types of fabrics and sewing techniques, learning how material choice affects the look and feel of a finished piece. Students will also create a small ballgown design in 3-D form on a miniature dress form, building on their earlier 2-D design experience from Fashion 101 by working with fabric and materials to explore volume, shape, and structure in a hands-on way.
